OPEN LABORATORY

This program is designed to provide a room for artist to experiment and develop their creative idea in various forms of presentation. The other function of this program is a crossing of artistic experimentation, discussion room, and social engagement. Any artist, researcher, dramaturgist, from the community of Teater Garasi or else, who wants to develop their creative ideas is welcome to participate in it.
This program aims to provide a framework and to sharpen the workshop of creation and presentation programs run at Teater Garasi so far.
Some programs/forums which has ever run within the similar framework are:

Malam Purnaman. A monthly meeting attended by comunity of Teater Garasi and other artists in Yogyakarta. This program ran from 1995-2005. It is a forum of discussion and open presentation where anyone who attended could share their ideas and the thought that they had been pondering. In this forum, they could also present/perform the works that they’d been doing. Later Malam Purnaman also published a periodic bulleting called Planet Poernaman, in 2002 it changed its name to Buletin BlockNote which finally brought forth author forum of BlockNot.

Forum Penulis Naskah Lakon (Playwright Forum). A forum of discussion and writing of playwright which brought together writers with different background. This forum ran from 2008 until 2010 and had already produced 2 anthology of plays: Kumpulan Naskah Forum Penulis Naskah Lakon (2009) and Perbuatan Serong (2011). This forum then brought forth a dramatic reading festival, Indonesia Daramatic Reading Festival (IDRF) in 2010 and it’s still running now. IDRF has been held in some cities in Indonesia (Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Lampung).

9m15s (Nine Minutes Fifteen Seconds) was an open monthly performance forum initiated by Teater Garasi/Garasi Performance Institute to facilitate any artist who needed a quick and flexible appreciation room for their works. Any artist who wanted to experiment, exchange their ideas or refresh themselves from a certain pattern of doing their works could access this forum routinely, relaxedly and cheaply. This forum ran from 2013-2014.

WYST (What’s Your Story Of Today) was a project of art laboratory focusing on media of sound or other forms related to sound. This laboratory facilitated some experiments in which an artist could further explore what they usually did. It runs since 2014.

Lubys, Indra Menus, Jay Afrisando, Juno Margana Putra, Kiat Istiqamah, Lintang Radittya, M.N. Qomaruddin Riska Farasonalia, Sandi Kalifadani. Curator: Yennu Ariendra, Dale Gorfinkel.

  2. dulu kami,komunitas magic jogja (KMJ) pernah tampil di 9m15s (sembilan seperempat) sekitar tahun 2013, kangen sekali waktu itu, rasanya ingin kembali ke masa itu dalam mengeksplore seni kami
