Jompet was born in 1976, lives in Bali and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He studied Communication at the Faculty of Social And Political Science of Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. Jompet was a musician, practices in the contemporary art field, and has strong interest in theatre. He has been self thought and trained by the local art community to be a visual artist. He practices arts on both traditional and contemporary ground. Jompet works individually, produces installations, videos, sounds and performances, and works collectively with Teater Garasi. He has exhibited in “Modernization & Urbanization” at Marronnier Art Center, Seoul (2003); 3rd Fukuoka Art Triennale (2005), Equatorial Rhythms at Stenersenmuseet, Oslo (2007); Yokohama Triennale (2008), Jakarta Biennale XIII, 10e Biennale de Lyon (2009), Kuandu Biennial and “The Tradition of the New” at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2010). He has had solo shows at Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta (2008); Osage Gallery, Singapore and Hongkong (2009, 2010); Selasar Sunaryo, and an independent project at 54th Venice Biennale (2011).
